Polish for foreigners

Practical, everyday Polish for foreigners

Who is it for?

Most people who come to us say things like:

  • "I have no one to speak Polish with"
  • "I understand, but I can't get the words out"
  • "When someone speaks Polish fast, I switch off"
  • "In restaurants they don't speak Polish to me – they switch straight to English"

We welcome people of all nationalities who have moved to Poland for good or for a while and want to learn real, everyday Polish so they can get by comfortably in a Polish-speaking world.

What language are the classes taught in?
Lessons are taught entirely in Polish or – if we agree on it together – with the help of English.

What are the classes like?
We start by creating a plan tailored to your current level and expectations. We set priorities: do you know the alphabet, which topics matter most to you right now – and we build an outline of the course from there.

Every lesson begins with a warm-up: conversation cards, games, mini role-plays, quick reactions – all to help you loosen up and get used to understanding different kinds of messages. Then we move on to the topic of the lesson.
We teach real, practical language. Among other things, you'll learn:

  • how to order a hot dog at Żabka and pay with BLIK,
  • what the cashier means when they ask "Czy mogę być winien grosik?" (Can I owe you a penny?),
  • the difference between "pójdę po pizzę" and "pójdę na pizzę",
  • why Poles say "napiszę smsa" when SMS isn't even a Polish word,
  • and the story behind the famous "carp war" at Lidl.

We focus on language in context, culture and real-life communication. We put practice first – along with the juicy linguistic nuances you won't find in any textbook.

We also put a lot of weight on revision – because what's the point of learning 20 new words if you never use them? We make sure you leave every lesson with vocabulary you have really taken in, set in the right context.

What about grammar?

We know Polish grammar can look terrifying – but it's not as scary as people make out. Polish has only 3 tenses! That's five (!) times fewer than English.

As for the cases – we have our ways. Alongside the theory we teach the practice straight away, so it's easy to remember which case to use in a given situation. We always drink our coffee with (z kim? z czym? – with whom? with what?) – the instrumental case. And the genitive? You're often afraid of it – and that's great! Because that's exactly how you remember that "bać się" and "obawiać się" (to be afraid of) go with it.

Materials

We create our own materials that combine everyday vocabulary, phrases and grammar. We listen to your requests and prepare materials for exactly what you need right now – e.g. "at the vet", "at the doctor's". We also create personalised revision materials tailored to each person's needs.

Results

Our students open up to speaking Polish. One of the biggest wins is the moment they order pizza by phone – not through an app. They find it much easier to understand shop assistants, officials, or the doctor. They can communicate in Polish naturally, without translating word for word from their native language.
